This workshop, run by Mary Holt, showed us how to create a long, narrow design with vertical groupings of taller material at varying heights, and a base patchwork of contrasting groups of foliage or flowerheads.
Mary's two designs are shown here:
This long balanced parallel has three vertical groups. The floral foam is sliced in two horizontally and placed end to end in a long tray. Note the grouping of the base material.
A smaller parallel with correspondingly less material, using one half of a horizontally-bisected block of foam.
Click on the topics on the left to see how Mary created the smaller parallel, and the students' designs at the end of the workshop.
